Groups - overview

Groups are helpful to organize users and the according permissions. The default way is to create a group, to connect this group to a group permission, and add users to this group. The users inherit all permission of the group. How to create group permission and connect them to group you can read in the next chapter. Groups can be organized in a tree:

Create group

In order to create a new group go to the tab 'User management' and click on 'Create group' in the 'Group'-area. You can specify the name of the group in different languages and a system-ID (optional). Usually it is enough to set only the name in field of the default language of the system (for instance English, the default language of the system is setted at installation time), and all other fields are filled out automatically:

Manage group hierarchy

Groups are organized in a group tree. By default the system comes with 3 basic groups after the installation:

  • System admin => is responsible for the system adminstration of the whole zone
  • Content admin => is responsible for the CMS administration
  • Editor => is responsible to write articles and to manage all media files

You can add, delete and move groups, and you can organize the groups in a tree. Child nodes inherit the permissions of the parent node. All users who belong to a child node belong automatically to all parent groups of the child group. Therefore users inherit all permissions of the group they are connected and the permissions of all parent groups.

You move a group using the Drag/Drop operation. A green marker shows you where you are allowed to drop the group in the tree. To edit a group go with the mouse over the group name and the link 'Manage group' appears:

Edit group

In the editing mode of a group you can edit and delete the selected group, create a new group, add new users to the group or manage the group hierarchy of the current zone. Jump through the tabs and discover the features by yourself, it is quite simple. This particular screen below shows how to add new users to the selected group:
